Jim Benson
Author · TitanForge
Jim Benson studies how people behave inside systems. He runs Modus Cooperandi, where the job is helping organizations see the systems they are trapped inside.
Life is filled with learning. He grew up queer in Nebraska, an early and thorough lesson in how a place decides who fits. He answered it as an angry punk rocker. Then he went looking for the machinery of belonging and became an urban planner and transportation engineer. He spent decades watching the streets, the zoning, and the commutes that influence our choices. From there he started a software company creating collaborative tools for government and, during that, helped create Kanban and invented Personal Kanban that have directly impacted human endeavor since.
That work, along with Lean Coffee, earned a Shingo Award and the Brickell Key Award. At sixty, he turned the same question on a starship: what three hundred people owe each other when there is no way home and something is always watching.
It is the first book of three. The surveillance is not a metaphor. It is the weather.
